One of the most symbolic moments of each New Year’s Eve is the “drop.” Locally, we have all sorts of fun drops, including a Strawberry, a Button, a pair of Yellow Breeches, a Wrench, a Dill Pickle, a Hershey Kiss and more. I wanted to capture the symbolic drop at a at-home party, so I created this Champagne Bottle Drop!
MATERIALS
- Large sheet of black paper
- Metallic markers
- Glitter & glue
- Embellishments – I bought a glittery sprig from the floral department
- String
I used the metallic markers to sketch out the shape of the bottle and cut it out. I did use some helpful tools, including a lid and a ruler.
Next, I flipped the bottle over, and used the metallic markers to decorate it. I used glitter on the top of the bottle for the wrapper and taped the string the entire way down the back.
For the drop, we strung the bottle up from a hook in the basement and I slowly lowered the bottle just before midnight.
It was a simple project, but it really added a lot to the party!
I also cut out some craft paper and taped it the wall, and encouraged everyone to write their favorite memory on it. I took a photo after everyone scribbled their memories down so that we could reflect the following year.
What fun NYE activities do you use to celebrate?
